relocating to a new city?

I've been considering moving to Miami Florida for college after I graduate highschool in 2008. But this will be my first time being independent so I need to know everything I need to do when moving. I already know that I need to get a car and map before I move down there. But what are all the other things I have to do from the first to last step. where could I get a map.
