The US ended the war . The VC agreed to hold and give US time to withdraw, before they enter Saigon. It was a chaos, since many Vietnamese wanted to get out with US.

Best Regards.

You're correct, the Korean War was more of a conventional war, while most of the fighting in Vietnam (with some major exceptions) was guerrilla. The Korean War had a definite start date. The conflict in Vietnam and US involvement in the war evolved gradually The United Nations technically directed the war in Korea, and dozens of nations sent troops, while in Vietnam the US was the only major nation involved, though the other countries of SEATO (South Korea and Australia primarily) did contribute some fighting and support units. The war in South Vietnam was essentially a civil war, with support from outside powers, since a substantial fighting force (the Vietcong) was recruited from the South Vietnamese population. In the Korean War, North and South Korea were essentially two different countries. Few, if any, South Koreans fought against UN forces. China directly intervened in the Korean War. China and the USSR sent materiel, money, and advisers to the North Vietnamese, but did not commit ground forces. American public opinion approached boredom and eventually frustration with the Korean War, The issue was not particularly divisive in domestic policies, other than the politicized dispute between Harry Truman and Douglas MacArthur about expanding the war. The Vietnam War sparked a fierce debate in American politics that defined the domestic turmoil in the late 1960s. The Korean War ended with a cease fire but is still technically in effect; there was never an armistice. US withdrawal from Vietnam was much like its entry: gradual. Most ground troops were out by 1971 and a cease fire went into effect in January 1973. US aid to South Vietnam continued until a renewed Communist offensive in 1975 ended South Vietnam as a country and the American diplomatic presence in Indochina.

Nixon and Kissinger got a peace deal with the commies at the Paris talks. South Vietnam was doing just fine. The Watergate scandal rocked the whitehouse and deposed Nixon. The North Vietnamese staged a conventional attack on the South. President Ford sought Congressional approval to send military aid to South Vietnam. The Democrats in Congress (Always an ally to the commies) blocked it. In April of 1975 the North Vietnamese took over Saigon and the war ended in an enemy victory.
Now the Democrats are supporting Al Qaeda.

The war ended in May 1975, when NVA tanks entered Saigon after we withdrew under the umbrella of the Paris Peace Accord.

Never mind that almost before the ink was dry on the pact, the North Vietnamense violated the agreement.

The continued support in funds, material and air power we had in good faith promised the South to get them to sign never materialized because a democrat controlled congress cut off all funds for the effort.

This ended what some believe to be a shameful episode in American history but nothing could be more shameful than how we let it end.

We weren't even involved at the end.

We didn't "cut and run" militarily, we just simply turned our backs to the South and walked away, politically.

In my opinion, we should have helped the South financially and materially fight the insurgency in the South while we alone invaded the North, tying up the NVA in defense of Hanoi. Hell, we should have taken Hanoi and unified the country by freeing it from the south up instead allowing it to be enslaved from the north down.

A Cease Fire Agreement in 1974.

A withdrawal of U.S. Forces ending in 1975.

The war lasted 11 years, but still cost lessed than we spent on the Iraq War.

We lost . . . . . . .

As soon as we left, the North attacked and took over the South, killing several thousands of people in that attack, and killing thousands more in education camps and just making them " disappear".

It is a conservative estimate that in Laos, Cambodia and Viet Nam, some 3 million people were slaughtered.
