Is there any way an oil dip stick for a car could read low (below first hole) and there be oil in the engine?

if your car holds 5 qts and your 2.5 low there will be none on the stick and the car will still be ok b but you should add to the full line as soon as possible

Engine? Are you Due an Oil & Filter Change? Dipstick Has a "Part Number" near the top area, take the number to the Parts Store and Check to see if you have the right Dipstick for that car?

Have only run into that if someone accidently switched dipsticks.

I have seen dip stick tube clog and when the stick is removed it will wipe the oil from the stick. Had to remove the tube clean it and reinstall it on a Ford 300 CID.

first i would check to make sure the correct amount of oil is in the car. some take 4 some take 5 some even take more ( that is quarts ) once that is established then you can see if it reads correct. then i would make sure that it is the right dip stick if you baught the car used.
