OK i have an 83 camaro berlinetta 5.0 V8 I was having problems with it dieing on me.. It would start chugging real bad then die. ussualy when i gave it gas. I took it to the shop and they said it was the clugged exhaust and cat that was making it do this.they fix the exhaust and they take it for two test drives and it needs towed back both times. saying that it would just die while driving, now they are telling me that the starter needs replaced because it is not disengagin correctly or something? Could the starter be the cause of its intermitent dieing problem?

sounds like you've got crap in the fuel lines, filter etc possibly.. drain flush and refill tank, replace fuel filters, could help... unbolt exhaust at the manifold, if it runs, it will be loud!, but you will know if it was that, as for the starter, i wouldn't think it would stop you after it had started, maybe the alternator, not generating enough power to keep things going?....
