Yes, that was always my more horny time and I miss that now that I have no periods. I think it must be that way so that nature makes a way for us to get pg. If I didn't want sex at a specific time when fertile, then no babies. Nature is great, isn't she? That time of the month seems to be the peak and then it is downhill when the blood flows, and then it starts all over again.
As a single person, I was sure to masturbate or take care of my feelings when going out at that time. I didn't want to be taken advantage of by some stud, nor did I want to make him think I was wanting him. I would have wanted a carrot at that time; it was just the hormones, no more nor no less.

Yep. It's a survival of the species instinct. It makes the most biological sense to have sex when you're most likely to get pregnant, so that's when you get horniest.
