~In all likelihood, there were none. There is no paleontological evidence that any form of Man existed in the Western Hemisphere until they migrated here from elsewhere. The Aztec (an oft misused term in that all Nahua speaking groups are technically Aztec, but THE Aztec are generally deemed to be that group who settled the Central Valley ) were a small group who ended up in the Mexican valley after being displaced by larger and stronger tribes in British Columbia and all the way down the spine of the Rockies. When they got to the Central Mexican Plateau, the Mexica and Toltec were already well established there and the Chichimec pretty much held sway in the non-urban regions, until they assimilated into the Tenochca and Toltec. . Of course, the archaeological record would seem to indicate that the Maya were well established before the Toltec and Mexica arrived.

Naturally with the scores of tribes who inhabited Mexico or who were transients through the region but who left no record, it is impossible to say which came first or to determine from whence they came. Only one thing appears to be certain: none of them were native to Mexico.

there are a lot, just like in the u.s., there are many different kinds and at different times; for example, there are the Toltecs and the Aztecs - the Aztecs are the ones who were there when the Spanish came and Mexico City was founded (they made it over where the Aztecs were already living).

There were lots of natives in Mexico prior in pre colombian times.

Mexico was once a much larger country, and if you only consider Mexico and its current boundaries there were still several different tribes of natives.

Many are related to the native Americans in southwestern U.S.

Aztecs, Kickapoo, Apache. Those are just the ones that I know of that once claimed their home to be within Mexico's borders. Tribes did not know the modern political borders, so many crossed the current borders.
