2.5m
It doesn't matter how long the room is. The perimeter is the distance all the way arround the edge of the room. If the length stays the same any increase in width is going to be an increase of double that in the perimeter. 2.5m on each side of the room makes the perimeter 5 meters longer.

Perimeter = 2*length + 2*width
Since the width appears twice, then divide 5 by 2

Since there are four sides (2widths and 2lengths) and you are trying to increase the TOTAL perimeter without increasing or decreasing the length, you would increase each width evenly and since you want it to be increased by 5m, you would divide 5 by 2 and get 2.5.

if L = 12. 34m
then perimeter p = 2*( L + W) = 2 *( 12.34 + W)
p = (24.68 + 2W)
so perimeter 5m longer implies
p+ 5 = ( 24 . 68 + 2W + 5)
= ( 24 . 68 + 2W + 2(2.5))
= ( 24 . 68 + 2(W + 2.5) )
= 2 (12.34+ (W + 2.5) )
so by increase width by 2.5 meters
it seems so trivial, hmm...

first, a rectange perimiter is 2w + 2L
w=widths
l=lengths
to keep the length the same, and increase the perimiter, you can only change the widths right?
and if you change one width, you have to change both right?
to increase by five total meters, you would have to add 1/2 of 5 to both sides!
