World of Warcraft: priest or mage?!?

Question

Should I be a (UD/BE) mage or a (UD/troll) priest? I hear the mage's CC ability (polymorph) sucks in PvP because it heals the target. I also heard that shadow priests have extremely good abilities and do better damage than even a mage... Is it true?

As well, which does better in soloing? instances? battlegrounds?

if your going for priest, go Undead, the racial WOTF is way overpowered with the new fear ward. same goes for mage, go for UD.

Theres many mages out there, not so many GOOD shadow priests. YOu have to be a really good shadow priest. I still cant outdmg my fiance and I actually have more dmg then him, but hes an arcane mage with most tier 5, I think hes only missing chest.

Both are great for soloing, both are GREAT for instances but mages bring cc, spriests not so much, we only got mind control..its not viable. and even with shadow priests being good now its still sometimes hard to get into a group because they are essentially looked as mana battereys and not uber dps. battlegrounds is an frost mage. and spriest are really good at pvp too.

my main used to be an UD mage, i then started leveling my human shadow priest so i could play on the same server as my fiance. Now whenever I play my mage im totally bored :P. I gquitted out of the raiding guild she was in because it was just too boring, i kept getting owned as her in bgs..but shes cookie cutter fire, not a good spec for pvp.

In my oppinion.. go with a mage... yes shadow priests are very good damage dealers.. but same gear same skill vs a mage.. a mage should FAR out perform a priests damage.. and the simple fact that to be a shadow priest in a group.. you would need a very freindly group and odds are.. no matter how much you like being a dps priest.. your gonna wind up being a healbot

Mages have amazing damage and the kings on Area Spells. Yes Polymorph does heal in both PvP and PvE but it's like that for a reason.

Shadow Priests are really powerful endgame. Although you may be expected to heal in certain situations. Their damage output isn't quite as good as a mages but as they do damage, they slowly heal the party's Mana and Health.
