I think it is 3200 phaetheon an astriod with meteorites , I'm no astrologer but I also saw it here from central Florida and it was an awesome sight to behold. I went to spaceweather.com and it was the only thing I saw that could explain it so I could be wrong!!! That was awesome tho , right? P.S. If I am right , this thing has meteorites which aren't usually associated with artoroids , that makes it a complete mystery and this thing is supposed to peak early Friday morning 12/14/07 , so check it out!!!

Read all the other post going on right now about this. So far no one has a clear explanation, but it was seen as north as Maine and so far as I can gather as far south as Savannah, Georgia.

EDIT: I don't know if you will keep up with this but it shouldn't be the asteroid you think it is. Unless the asteroid exploded. That asteroid was a magnitude 14 and shouldn't have been visible by the naked eye.

Could be a meteor as part of the Germinid Meteor shower. Honestly, I have never seen such a bright meteor. It must have come in at a very perpedicular angle (head on) to it appeared very bright and large. It was truly amazing, I was walking outside at that time and saw it from Morrisville, NC
