It all depends on how much memory your motherboard will support. Either look through your manual or find out your motherboard type and look on the net.
Some motherboard manufacturers put a limit on how much RAM you can use in total, and also per slot. Of course, if the limit is 2Gb+ and you have a spare slot, then by all means you can use both.

You should be able to do this, if that configuration is supported by your laptop.
You need to go to the manufacturers web site and look in the support section for the memory configurations that are valid for your computer. Just because they make a 2GB chip, does not mean your laptop will see or use it. You may also have to put the smaller chip into only one of the two slots, to prevent your laptop from seeing the larger chip as only 512MB also. This is a common issue, where the smaller chip has to be in a specific slot or socket.
These web site will give you some ideas of what memory configurations you might be able to use.

depends on what the specs of your motherboard are. Your motherboard specs will show what kind of combinations, what the maximum per slot is, ect.
so lets say you have 2 slots, each with 512 MB
it might say the MAXIMUM per slot is 1 Gig. SO you might not be able to put a 2 gig chip in. See what I mean?
It might say you HAVE to use a 2 gig and a 500 MB together becuase you can't have an open ram slot.
This was typically more common in older motherboards.
Do a search for your motherboard specs, and you will find the answer.

if you currently have 1.0 GB or RAM (512MB X 2) then if you add the 2 GB module then you should be able to use the the 512 still but yeah you might want to check and see what you maximum is first.. if its only 2GB then I would tell you to get (2) 1GB modules or (1) 2GB module, but if your max is 4 then put the extra money in and get (2) 2GB modules and have a really fast computer...

Depends if you have slots and the type of memory. I suggest you find out what type of memory you currently own then buy the memory accordingly. If you have 2 slots and your memory is already split into 2 (2X 256) you will not be able to get there.

You can have RAM up to the limit specified by your computer.
You will have to check the specifications which should be on the User's Guide.

Hi. As long as they are the same type, yes. Your machine will run at the speed of the slowest RAM though.

you can buy ram if you have still slots for it in the motherboard.
