I think it's been handed down from old maritime. When the commodore would hand the ship or boat over to the captain, he would tell the captian "She's all yours". Meaning that he gave his prize to the next in charge and would expect the same amount of respect for the ship that they captian would give his wife. Over the years, aviators would call their airplanes she and give them girl names. I think it was because you were supposed to be totally commited to the machine as if you were totally commited to a wife. And I think it just carried over to the car. Either that or some men want to be in control at all times and feel secure and confident when they are in control. So by being in control of a car might be one side, then he might be controling over a woman also. I don't know. That last part confused me too. I'll just give up. Haa. Take care, have a great night!

The car is an object that can give one pleasure driving it, and she comes to mind. Boats were the first called she and then cars as an extension of boats

Because....
Like a woman, the man knows he
can depend on "her" and "she'll"
always be there even when he
doesn't always care for "her" like
he should. But unfortunately, as
"she" gets older, she needs to
be taken care of, which sometimes
can be costly. That's when the man
starts to look elsewhere.....perhaps
at a younger, prettier "model". He
then does a trade in. He drives
around, showing "her" off. Never
once looking back.

Because they take the default feminine most likely due to the fact that they have cars or something, similar to how other Romance languages have masculine and feminine words.

I'm glad not all men do that, that would be rather annoying
it is like they're in love with a material possession instead of a real woman of their species

because of the natural urge to want to hop "into" every female we see. Umm that's the most clean way I can think of to say it.
Just like piercings, I don't feel the urge to have things "in me" but of course there are some guys who do so that's just me

Because most cars are as needy as women. You have to put gas in them, change the oil, wash them, wax them, vacuum them, and pay lots of money for cars. The clincher is that cars cost so much money is why guys always refer to their cars as 'she'.
