im getting an xbox 360 for xmas this year and i am intrigued by the halo series. ive heard great things about it and would like to get into it. now i know the new halo (3) is out but i understand it has a storyline. I have NEVER played halo in my life and dont know whether i should buy halo 1, then maybe 2 then 3 in the future, or is it easier just to get 3 now and learn about the story through halo 3?

Halo does have a storyline and if you want to be informed buy them in order from 1-3.But if your ready for some serious action jump right into halo 3 it is clearly the best of the seeries.

Well if you really want to get into the story of it you should buy all three games. But you could also go online and read about the storyline on the web for Halo 1 and Halo 2, just google it on, it should show on Wiki.
Btw if you decide to change your mind about Halo here are other games to check out:
-Assasin's Creed
-Call of Duty 4
-Guitar Hero 3

If you're interested in the storyline, then I'd suggest playing through all 3 games. However, Halo 3 is famous mainly for it's online play, which has nothing to do with the Story. If you're going to be getting it for online, I'd say just go for Halo 3.

Well if ur actually interested in Halo the plot then get halo 3, i own all the Halos(yeah HALO-FREAK) ha ha but in the beginning in the instructions manual it has the plot and tell you what happened in the past two games. I have to say halo 3 is fricken awesome cause the graphics!

I'd say Halo 3 because of the many people playing it online. Barely anybody plays Halo 1 or 2 online.

DO NOT PLAY HALO 3 UNLESS YOU'VE PLAYED THE OTHER TWO.
there are so many understood references in the third game that will spoil the first two. There are tons of answers in both the normal campaign and the easter eggs that you have no idea why it's important.
Definitely play the first two.

that isn't any longer nicely worth getting popular Halo 3. yet there are some reasons if ur realy on the sting of buying for it. in case you prefer greater armour (which does no longer something) then you certainly do the marketing campaign for the armour. additionally in case you prefer achievments for the marketing campaign then there is yet one greater reason

i bought the first two, because like you i knew i was getting a 360 and wanted 3
they were fun, but i never got the story, it confused me, so i just got 3 and its fun despite not knowing whats going on
plus you have online which is amazing, so i dont think you should waste your money, just get 3
