It's a large area carpet, not attached. It is a horrid medium sage green. I don't want to spot kit dye but do the entire thing. So does anyone know if this is possible??

An area rug is easier to replace than to dye. You would have to have a working knowledge of the type of fibers and how they accept color over the color that is already there. If the rug is expensive, it would be better to have a professional advise you or do it if they could. If it is just an averaged priced piece, buy a rug that suits you and skip the mess and hassle.

I don't think you'd be able to dye a carpet evenly enough. But I have seen carpet painted on Trading Spaces or HGTV.
