That Christmas & Thanksgiving were never celebrated on the Andy Griffith Show? I wonder why the holidays were never written into the script?

luvspbr2.... Thanks, I do recall that episiode but I was wondering why Mayberry wasn't decorated for Christmas, as well as the homes of Andy, Helen, Thelma Lou, etc. No Christams tree in Andy's house & no Christmas dinner, compliments of Aunt Bea.

I never saw Thanksgiving on the Andy Griffith show, but they did celebrate Christmas. They had a guy in jail for moonshining and Mr. Weaver wanted him to stay there. So Andy put the family in jail too (since they knew he was making moonshine), so they could all be together. Then Andy, Opie, Barney, Aunt Bee and Ellie were all at the jail celebrating and decorating for Christmas. Then Mr. Weaver keep trying to get 'jailed' so he wouldn't have to be alone on Christmas. Andy kept letting him go and he'd do something else. Then they realized what was going on and arrested him. First they let Mr. Weaver go back to his store to get things he needed, but it was really Christmas presents for everyone.
Edit: True, many shows just did a 'special' episode and then the holiday was over. I agree it probably could get very expensive to do more.
Happy Holidays to you too!

The golden years,it wasn't necessary for the Xmas hype like today.mass marketing, mass media,.back then people appreciated Xmas and thanksgiving for what they were. birth of Christ,a time to be thankful.. People were full of appreciation. MAY BERRY WAS A SYMBOL OF EASY LIVING AND FUN TIMES.those SHOWS REPRESENTED/WERE SYMBOLIC of THE FULL EMBODIMENT OF XMAS AND THANKSGIVING
TODAY EVERY MARKET YOU CAN THINK WANTS YOU TO SPEND DURING THESE HOLIDAYS.XMAS AND THANKSGIVING.by the way the day after thanksgiving is the first official day of the Xmas shopping season

Something to do with prime time costs and specials vying for them - I believe.
You will notice a lot of sitcoms dont do xmas shows - it depends on ratings and sponsors -
