We need to give up on the current crop and start breeding the "am I hot?" obsession out of little girls. Dressing 9-year-olds like pole dancers and parading empty-headed do-nothing wastes of breath like Paris Hilton in front of children as "role models" doesn't help. Teach your daughters about Amelia Earhart, Sandra Day O'Connor, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Madeline Albright, etc. as role models. Not Pamela Anderson.

I don't need to view your link to say that objectification will never end until a certain level of enlightenment has reached the masses. Sadly that will not be happening in my lifetime. Objectification is basically on steroids now days. Internet infused, objectification has risen across the board. I expect to see even more. Much more! The scary part of objectification is the broad stroke the definition seems to carry now. It is absolutely everywhere. Nothing is impervious to objectification. It's occurring all around us 24/7. The skin of man and woman is barely scratching the objectification surface in our ever growing technological life.

LOL. This is very true, and quite absurd. The nipple aspect is appalling.
Anyhow, it's a pretty sexually oppressed society, I agree.
It's a really difficult issue to deal with, especially when we see an on-going pattern of gender discriminations. And I really don't agree with any sort of extreme exposure, because gaining respect as a mature responsible woman is definitely not walking down the street half-naked having every little eye and lip dawning over you.
The truth is, guys don't have sexually appealing "upper bodies" as us ladies do.
I mean if a guy's nipple popped out, I certainly wouldn't be turned on by it.
Consider us..more sacred? Well, on that area at least.

We could say the same about the men flashing 6 packs around everywhere as well.
I agree that women's sexuality is more often used than men's, but I think this is a problem with both sexes.

Actually, we live in quite the opposite of an indavertant sexually oppressed society, quite the opposite.
Women agree to being objectified, men agree to being objectified...in an age of superficial consumerism, the dollar has the loudest voice

I think its because women enjoy the attention and women with low self esteam enjoy the praise and 'love'' from men, they feel it helps define their self worth and make them look pretty. I dont understand the nipple thing eather but i think its because a baby uses it to grow just like showing ur vagina is a bid deal, but im glad we have some limits! i agree it has got to stop!!!!!

When women start using their minds and stop using their bodies to gain attention. When women stop using casual sex or 'friends with benefits' when trying to gain male attention. When women put their education above their clothes and their guys. When women care more about the way they think and what they know than about the way they look and who they know......it won't happen in your lifetime, unfortunately.
The fact is: as long as women allow themselves to be treated this way, it will be the way of our society.

1. Reduce your own media exposure. The application of media and advertising psychology is extremely advanced, subtle and manipulative. Learn as much about that psychology as possible and present about it to PTA's and other parents and women's organizations.
2. Boycott products using advertising that objectify women.
3. Boycott TV programming with sexist commercials.
4. Write to your Congressional representatives, state AND federal, voicing your concern. These letters are VERY important. NO action will be taken without massive input from constituents to offset the massive clout of the commercial interests and their campaign contributions.
5. Become involved with PTA's and media literacy groups that strive to educate parents about the dangers of the sexualization of young girls.

Feminists in the past fought to be able to be sexually free(to be sexual).
And then now fighting for being overly sexualized...
It's apparent that there is always going to be complaining, no matter what is done. If you embrace a woman's sexuality, you're wrong... if you subdue a woman's sexuality, you're wrong. Basically, men are just always wrong no matter what they do, and this has spilled into the political realm.
