I'm signing up for a direct deposit. I need a voided check. I have a checking account, but I don't use and don't have checks. Will I have to order checks or can I just ask my bank for one voided check?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Your bank may be able to help you out. The reason that companies want the check is for the routing and account numbers. Your bank may be able to print out something for you.

They DON'T need a voided check. They just need the routing number and account number and they don't trust you to get them right. Tell your bank you are setting up a direct deposit and need a statement confirming your information. If ANY party involved won't cooperate, I recommend not dealing with that party, even if it means changing employers AND banks.

Most banks will require you to order checks, although some banks might have a MICR printer and can print you one check. Also, alot of office stores (Like office max) sell checks cheaply. I'm not sure how many they make you purchase there. A lot of banks offer you your first box of checks for free, but this isn't all banks.

Your bank can print you some "generic checks" that have your account information printed on them. Then you can use one of these for your need. The entity asking for the voided check is needing your account number and your bank's routing transit number.

Depending on the direct deposit plan, sometimes you can use a letter from your bank stating your acct number and routing number, if you don't have any checks. You should check with your bank and see what they can do for you.

Do you have personalized deposit slips that were issued to you by the bank? Sometimes these will have the routing and account number on them.

Go to your bank and ask for a temp check or a counter check. It might cost a $1.00 or so but its better then $25 for a box of checks.
