Let's assume the following:
One person consumes 5 pounds of food in 1 day.
One person has an average life span of 75 years.

Multiplying:
5 lbs-per-day * 365 days-per-year * 75 years = 136875 lbs-per-year.

This is equal to 68 tons (136875 / 2000).

We can wave our hands and say 25 to 50 tons on average.

32 ounces of food a day is a lot of food. If you figure 2,000 calories, in an all meat and fat diet, that would be about 20 ounces. Figuring most people are going to eat some grain and fruits and vegetables a day, with fewer calories per ounce, less than that weight would be logical. On the other hand, if you count liquids, milk and soda and fruit juice are about 10 calories per ounce, so 1000 calories in liquid would be 100 ounces right there. And 8-8 ounce glasses of water a day is 4 pounds (64 ounces) right there.

Assume 2 pounds / day * 365 days / year * 80 years / live = 58400 pounds or 29.2 tons. Of course this could be much higher or much lower depending upon diet!

are you averaging only people that eat well, or are you including people that starve to death at a young age. i think there are lots of them in africa which would bring the average down.
