Using an atlas showing major interstate highways, plot the route you would take to go to the city of Toronto. (My teacher told us to start from the city of Detroit, MI). Answer the following questions:
a)How many hours or days would the trip take from your home? (Again, my teacher said to start from Detroit, MI)
b)Approximately how much gas would the trip take from your home?
c)Would you need to spend the night in a hotel or motel? If so, how much would the room cost?
d) How many meals would you have to buy, and what would they cost?
e) What would be the total cost of the trip?

The reason I am asking this question is because I don't have an atlas at home, and my parents are too busy to take me to the library. I would really appreciate it if you would help me on this question!! Whoever gets this question right and also is the first one, will get voted best answer by me!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!! :)

Try Mapquest on the net, it will give you the number of miles you have to travel. You will also have to figure in the mileage you get in your car, what speed you will travel at and what you plan to eat along the way, also if the trip is overnight will you sleep in your car in an interstate rest area or will you spring for a motel room. It's all really a matter of mathematics once you find out how many miles you have to go.

Since you obviously have the internet, you don't need an atlas. Utilize the city locator on a basic mapping website (Google, Yahoo, Mapquest) for a mileage calculator. That will give you the distance between the two cities.
A) Figure that the average highway speed is 65 mph to calculate how long the trip will take.
B) If you don't know the gas mileage for your family car, go online to the makers website (i.e. Ford) and get an estimation for Highway mpg (miles per gallon). Divide your total miles by the number of miles per gallon your car gets, and you'll have the total number of gallons of gas you'll need.
C) For the hotel room- figure that if there is one person driving, you can drive 12 hours, two people could maybe drive 16 or 18. If the trip takes longer than that, you'll need a hotel/motel room; the average rate for a cheap motel is $65/night.
D) Figure on eating every six to eight hours, at a rate of $5 for breakfast, $10 for lunch and $15 for dinner, including tip, per person.
E) Added all up, it will be your total cost.
