Quarterbacks were told that the green dot would protect them from pass rushers by camouflaging them, allowing them to blend in with the artificial turf just a little bit better.
Prior to slapping on the green dots, QB's stood out like a sore thumb out there in the middle of the field. Now they're very hard to spot... defenders need special blue sunglasses in order to counteract the effects of the green dot.
I think it's makes the game a lot more interesting, don't you?

I am 90% sure that the green dots are the antennas or something like that to do with their radios inside their helmets. You could double check on that but I'm pretty sure about that and it is JUST the quarterbacks so that makes it more obvious.

The quarterback needs to be spotted by both his own team members and the people attacking him because of the special rules that apply to quarterbacks (like when you can and can't hit him) so their helmets have a marking on the back when only his head might be visible above the crowd.

It is to signify to the officials that the helmet has commincations installed on it. Only one player on the team is allowed to be on the field with a commincations helmet at any time. The green dot allows the officials to make sure this happens. The communications helmet allows the coach to call the play to the player.

The green dot is a mind control device Bill Belichick installed into every QB's helmet including his own.

To mark the players with bionic implants to help with athletics. Yes the players have to sacrifice overrated skills like reading, writing and verbal communication, but it is for the game so worth it.

It's an audio receiver to hear plays transmitted from the coach.
And it IS mint green, not orange.
