You wrote "the civil war". Are you referring to a specific one or civil wars in general? If a specific one, which one?

In the general case it is clear that unevan gowth and expansion, combined with uneven distribution of resources, have been major factors in many civil wars.

Look at all the major conflicts in Africa, or even in Iraq. How many of them are fueled by a desire to get access to various resources: oil, diamonds, gold, etc. Or by nomads running out of space and encroaching on the lands of other tribes?

Even in Belgium, the two halves of the country can't agree on a government and the North want to separate from the South because the North is rich and doesn't want to subsidize the poor South. (It doesn't help that there is a cultural divide as well, but that is only a contributing factor.)
