When the Mormon church was founded, its leaders preached and practiced polygamy.

The US Gov't, though, wouldn't let Utah join the Union as long as they did so, so the new leadership of the church announced that God had changed his mind, and polygamy was now a bad thing. The mainstream Mormon church no longer allows polygamy - you can be kicked out of the Church for doing so.

A lot of Mormons back then though thought it was wrong to change your religious beliefs to make the government happy, so they broke away and formed their own Mormon churches - usually called "Orthodox Mormons" or "Fundamentalist Mormons" which are the churches that, today, still practice polygamy.

Romney is a member of the mainstream Mormon Church, and therefore opposes polygamy.

Are you trying to annoy people? Only a small percentage of Mormons believe in and practice polygamy. Mitt Romney is not one of them. Any simple web search will reveal that.
