For colleges, Junior Year is the most important because you will probably take the most challenging/rigorous classes during that year, and colleges will see those grades. They mostly consider Sophomore and Junior grades.

However, they also look at the difficulty and quality of your Senior year.

Remember, they want to see that you continually challenge yourself. Senior year is also important because it shows the admissions officer what kind of student you will be when you go to their college.

Colleges MAY look at your Senior year grades. For example, the UC School request your first semester grades (I'm not sure if they also ask for second semester grades). Even after students are accepted to a UC, the school has the right to revoke your admission to that school because you received bad grades. A bad grade would be a D or F. So I would advise anyone to still work hard during senior year and not get a bad case of senioritis.

Hope this helps.

Junior year is most crucial as far as getting into colleges is concerned. If you did poorly freshman and sophmore years but show significant improvement during your junior year you can still get into college. During your senior year you will be applying to colleges already, so they won't see your grades for that year until after you are already accepted. Which allows you to have a lot more fun during your senior year!

All the years are important, but especially sophomore and junior years because those are the core years of high school. Your grades throughout school matter. Just because you submitted your college apps half way through senior year doesn't mean you can slack off. Colleges could rescind their admissions.

When I was in high school every year was very critical since you want to keep a good GPA. But, specifically, senior year was the most important because you really want to take courses that will prepare you for college and build confidence!

=)

Hope that helps!

Sincerely,

Andrew
