I feel we do take things for granted, probably too much.

Technology: an applied science
Something taked for granted: a thing that is a given from the beginning of your life to the end
A naturalist, Bob, lives on a pristine tropical island. Bob uses a fire to cook his lunch every day. Fire is a science that is applied to his needs; fire is a technology. Does Bob expect to use a fire in the future? Probably. Is Bob aware that the fire could be put out by a monsoon? Probably. So, does Bob take fire for granted?
Last word: Yes and no; life is more complex than a single-word answer. If Bill Gates didn't take computers for granted, and didn't think they would last his lifetime, he wouldn't be a millionaire. Then again, if people in the 1920’s hadn’t taken the stock market for granted, they wouldn’t have lost their money on Black Tuesday of 1929. Life is a balancing act: the dynamics of the see-saw are up you.

Absolutely we do.
4 months ago, my wife was in labour with our baby daughter. While we were at home, a water main burst, and the whole street had no running water.
I can't even begin to tell you how stressful it was for us both: she couldn't wash, we couldn't get a drink of water, she couldn't even spash her face to cool down.
Obviously, it only lasted for a few hours (both the labour and the water-cut), but it was still pretty difficult.
Have you never thought what you'd do if the electricity stopped working tomorrow? People nowadays keep a lot of stuff in the fridge/freezer. You'd have to find candles, or just go to bed as soon as the sun set. How would you cook? Filling station pumps wouldn't work, so once your car ran out of petrol, that'd be it; also, no working streetlights or traffic signals: pretty chaotic.

We don't neglect our achievements. What we do, however, is fail to give enough credit to our forefathers who made all these inventions we use everyday possible. Have we ever caught ourselves saying, "Thank you caveman, for discovering fire. It makes our food tastier." ? We take fire for granted, the light-bulb for granted, even computers for granted!
I'm sure we'll feel bad if our inventions were taken for granted a century from now. You take technology for granted because you've had it since you were born. Once you lose it though, you realize its true value. Just try to imagine life without electricity! It would be like hell.
So every time you go to bed, spare a thought for the people who strove hard to make our lives comfortable. Please, don't take their brainchildren for granted. Just because we've always had them, it doesn't mean they can be take for granted.

hell no! well maybe as a population but if you start looking into stuff like DWDM, SDH, Light Amplifiers etc it's amazing the amount of hard work and effort that has gone into just the very most base level of communications.
And that is just the communications side of technology. The OSI model is, frankly, an awe inspiring testamony to mankinds ability and achievements across a plethora of subjects and accomplishments.

Yes, Cheers, I do think we take technology for granted...particularly those of us who weren't born before so much of it was invented.
I'm going to say 50-50 about human beings neglecting their achievements...some do, some don't. Still a pity.

I think it is so mainstream it is taken for granted because the kids grow up with it and they think of it as a neccesity rather than luxury ....... usually the rich folk take it to the extreme with not being gratefull for pda's wireless internet , cell phones with gsm , i guess u just had to be without it at one time to trully appreciate the cool advances in technology u know..
good question
it makes u think bout alot of stuf we didnt have growing up

I don't know that we neglect them, but really stop and think what would happen if everything electrical didn't work?? Where would we be, we depend so much on that, that it is kind of scary.
