I mean, do they have to sleep in the moses basket all the time? I have a lovely moses basket but it's hard wicker and I wont be able to carry it up and down the stairs like you can with lighter weave type...Im have a C section. I wondered if I could put the baby in a big cot upstairs at night?

My daughter had a section on 27th NOv and My new grandson is 13 days old and has slept in his cot since he came home, as did his big brother. and is perfectly fine.
just lie the baby at the bottom end of the cot so they cant wriggle down and get below the blankets/duvet..

i did the same with my 3 kids 20 odd years ago and they are all grown adults

I don't see why not. But make a little "nest" for your baby in the big cot or they'll look and feel a bit lost.

I used a baby sheepskin for my last baby, she was very small anyway and snuggled into the depression I made for her very comfortably. Babies don't really like to lie completely flat when newborn. If you see the cribs in the hospital you will notice that they have a very squishy mattress, which baby an nestle down into.
Sometimes they like to lie on one side to sleep too. They don't wriggle or try to turn over so there's not a safety issue for some weeks, even months.

Use one half of the cot you have, putting feet to foot and ignore the top end of the cot for now. Use cot bumpers inside the cot bars to keep out the drafts until your baby starts to mess with them, then use them outside the bars instead. Just tie the ties with a knot instead of a bow to prevent them pulling it off.

I've had 3 sections and its difficult enough in the first few weeks to carry just the baby up and down the stairs. You are right to think about this now. Good luck!

I have 4 children the youngest is 12 weeks and all of them went straight into a full size cot, remember to put feet to the bottom and tuck blankets under mattress to keep baby nice and snug. IMO moses baskets are a waste of money you only use them for 12 weeks. Congratulations by the way, I had 3 sections don't worry you'll be running about in no time.

I've known a few people who have started their baby off in a cot. I had to move my baby inito a cot after just 5 weeks as she kept hitting the sides and waking herself up!

If using a cot, use a swaddling blanket (can get them from mothercare for about £15). It will give baby the comfort of closeness.

If you want to put the baby on a cot or other full size bed, I would suggest putting it up against the wall with either pillows or folded blankets on the other 3 sides so the perceived space is much smaller.

Even as they get a little bit older and start moving more in their sleep it's still a good idea to keep some sort of barrier (pillows if you have to) between them and the edge of the bed. Even my boyfriend's 3 year old son has a habit of rolling off of the bed and hitting the floor if he falls asleep in our room.

Of course you can. Cots are designed to be totally safe for babies of all sizes. People tend to compare the convenience of a moses basket but there is no real need for one if you want to use a cot.

I'm not sure what you mean by a cot. My babies had full size cribs from the time they came home from the hospital. Just be sure they have safe railings and bumpers and the baby will be fine.

My son has slept in his crib in his own room since the night we came home from the hospital and we never had a problem. He is now almost 9 months and doesn't like to sleep anywhere but his crib. He is very calm and layed back. He slept through the night at about 6 weeks. Happy Holidays. and Congrats.

Yes. I put my son in his cot at 4 weeks and he was fine. Just make sure baby is in feet to foot position.

If you want to put your baby to sleep in 20 seconds you must get the "Instant Baby Sleep" MP3 sound track. Here is their official web-site: http://www.instantbabysleep.net

The sound track gently produces energy over the full human hearing spectrum with an embedded pulse that gently eases the brain to the Alpha state well known for drowsiness and sleep induction.
