Do you think that the CIA is targeting Congress in a secret operation given all the troubles the two have had between each other. In other words the tapes issue is more or less a ploy involving a larger action to defame and discredit elected members of Congress. The whole issue sounds benign but remember this is the CIA and they are trained to do things like that to other countries. What seems benign may go deeper than is appears at the surface. They are after all a very secretive and powerful branch of presidential umbrella.
Your opinons please.

No, I think they are covering their (and the administration's) behind.

They say they destroyed the tapes to protect the identity, and hence the safety, of the "interrogators." But somehow it's OK to out Valerie Plame?

Interesting thought, but I think you're reading too much into this. The reason seems clearcut: CIA director Hayden told agency employees that the recordings were destroyed out of fear the tapes would be leaked to the press and reveal the identities of interrogators. He said the sessions were videotaped to provide an added layer of legal protection for interrogators using new, harsh methods. Bush had just authorized those methods as a way to break down the defenses of recalcitrant prisoners.

I have very little respect for Congress. They are a bunch of self-interested, do-nothings who love to smugly pontificate on pointless subjects such as Clinton's immorality, instead of performing the hard, tedious task of drafting legislation that they were elected to do.

These clowns had years to watch the tapes. Did they bother? Of course not. They're too lazy.
