I think there are many that can be contested I am a Yankees fan and yes the comeback on us was great but I think those playoffs were lackluster in every sense of the word besides that series a sweep in the world series doesn't really appeal to me especially when it is a team I hate

I think the cool games for each round in the recent years would go like this

Tiebreaker game- Rockies vs Padres that was a huge comeback

Division Series-Astros Braves 17 or 18 inning game with the walk off by CHris Burke

CHampionship Series- Red Sox vs Yankees 2004 yikes
Yankees vs Red Sox 2003 great series, brawls, Aaron Boone

World Series Game 7 2001 Yankees DBacks boy that was hard to watch

The 1978 1 game playoff between the NY Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees trailed the Red Sox the entire season, after the All Star break, they over came a 14 game deficit to finish the season tied with the Red Sox. The Yankees were losing the game until Bucky Dent (of all people), the Yankees SS at the time, hits a home-run that that gave the lead to the Yankees, and eventually the Yankees won the game. The Yanks then went on to beat the Royals in the playoffs and went on to beat the Dodgers in the WS.

2003, bar none.

The best post season HAS to include the 3-0 comeback from the Red Sox. The only team to accomplish this in the history of baseball.

Plenty of series have been won with walk offs, none had ever ended with 1 team being down 3-0, then winning 4 straight.

Don't forget the Sox also went on to sweep the Cardinals in the World Series.

2003 would be in the running if the Yankees hadn't been embarrassed in game 6 by Beckett and the Marlins in Yankee Stadium.

2003 had great AL/NLDC with the storied Sox/Cubs blowing chances with 5 outs to go each and then an awesome WS despite the Yankees losing

'86 was the complete package. The Series' between Boston/California, Mets/Astros and then the WS was great.

I stuck to playoffs since the expansion in 1969 just because if you had two great WS to compare and one had a great Champ Series and or Div series, it added to it for me.

Honorable mention for me goes to 1981. First year with Div series saw the Dodgers come back on Astros, Expos and Yankees. I started following ball that year and being from Canada, I liked Montreal. After Black Monday, I hated the Dodgers and started cheering for the Yankees. My grandfather was visiting and explained the whole Yankee/Dodger thing to me and I was hooked.

Unquestionably, it was the one game National League Playoff between the Dodgers and Giants in 1951 when Bobby Tompson hit "The Shot Heard Round the World" walk off home run.

2004 ALCS, Boston over New York. Stands alone, really.

1980 NLCS, Philadelphia over Houston. Four of the five games went to extra innings.

1991 WS, Minnesota over Atlanta. Every game a nailbiter.

1975 WS, Cincinnati over Boston. A classic in every sense of the word.

2002 WS, Anaheim over San Francisco. On top of everything else, this one was The Barry Show! And my goodness, what a show he put on.

-----
Edit: ...and of course, the entire baker's dozen World Series from 1921, '22, '26, '42, '55, '57, '60, 63, '64, '76, '81, 2001, and 2003, each a critical piece of the Yankees' record number of Series losses. Given that "Yankee haters" is the largest demographic group among self-described baseball fans with a preference (true!), MLB should consider making a boxed DVD set.

Chew on that, bitter little liar.

For both AL and NL I would have to say 2003...even though I had to watch the Sox blow the lead in game 7 and then Boone launch that HR in extras I think every round on both sides was exciting...it may not be the most exciting in history but in recent history I would have to say 2003 was the best.

2003 ALCS Yankees vs Red Sox, and Aaron "bleeping" Boone's series ending walk off blast off Tim Wakefield. One of the most memorable HRs ever.

1986 Mets vs Red Sox and Bill Buckner's error that cost them the game. The amazing rally ending with Mookie Wilson plating Ray Knight to score the tying run. I remember watching it live. I'll never forget it.
