im 16 and i do my own laundry and i know how, i wash everything in cold water and dont even put anything in the dryer , nothing fades so it looks brand new still but everything shrinks a little i dont know why, l i put delicate shirts and that kind of stuff on gentle cycle in my washer and then hang up to dry, but for some reason like basic t shirts and jeans i wash them in cold water and i dont even put them in the dryer they dont fade but they shrink a little why? it makes me mad because i have a minimum salary job and i can't afford to keep buying new clothes all the time. can someone help me please

It sounds like you're doing all the right things, but shrinkage can still occur if the garment is cotton. Have you tried handwashing? When you take the clothes out of the washer or sink, stretch them out with your hands and lay them flat to dry. If you still have that problem, ask a friend who's larger than you to wear the clothes for a day and stretch them out.

You are going to have to easily stretch your cotton t shirts because washing them alone makes the fabric shrink up. You can also try some Downey wrinkle reducer to stretch them without damaging them. They will also have a fresh smell to them as if they have been in the dryer.

Instead of hanging, try stretching them to the original size and laying them on towels or a drying rack. You should be able to avoid any shrinkage this way.

Might try Woolite for the detergent for fading,as far as shrinkage,I have the same problem!!
