Anytime you see something in brackets, you multiply it out. Do one at a time:

4x(2x-1) + 5x(3x+1) will be
= 8xx - 4x + 5x(3x+1)
= 8x^2 - 4x + 15xx + 5x (^ means exponential)
=8x^2 - 4x + 15x^2 + 5x (now group like terms together)
=8x^2 + 15x^2 - 4x + 5x
= 23x^2 + x (which can also be shrunk down to)
= x(23x + 1)

4x(2x-1)+5x(3x+1)
8x^2-4x + 15x^2+5x
8x^2+15x^2-4x+5x
23x^2+x
The third line is really x^2(8+15)+x(5-4), which gives
x^2(23)+x(1), which gives line 4, 23x^2+x. You do so
many of these things, and then the rule "add like terms"
clicks in, and you just go from line 3 to line 4 without
that in-between stuff.

8x-4x+15x+5x

4x(2x-1) + 5x(3x+1) just multiply.. 4x*2x .. 4x*-1 .. etcetc.
(8x^2 - 4x) + (15x^2 + 5x) and combine like terms
23x^2 + x

first you have to distribute.
4x*2x=8x^2
4x*-1= -4x
plus
5x*3x= 15x^2
5x*1=5x
then add the terms...
8x^2-4x+15x^2+5x
23x^2+x
