I think he would like the title and all the hugging and handshakes and bows. He does love it when people kneel and kiss his ring (that hundreds of others just kissed ..like ewww). However, he is not capable of making great decisions for those who are not deluded by religion. So ultimately, no, I don't think he'd want that job.

The Pope is "Peter" Christ's messenger on earth. He doesn't want or need to be president of Italy. Why would he? He is Pope and will be until the day he dies. Following in the footsteps of the original missionary to bring the word of God to mankind. It cannot possibly be an easy life but he didn't chose it - he was chosen to be today's leader of Catholicism. It's possible he prayed for this position, if so, his prayers were answered but we will never know who God choses to do what or when. He is already the leader of the faith to millions worldwide.

No, only American Christian leaders and middle eastern Muslim leaders have the poor judgement to get involved in politics. So far I think the Pope has had the good sense to stick to his calling for the most part.

The pope is absolute ruler for life and chief of state. He pays no taxes and has no bills. A much better gig then president of a country.

No.

The mission of the Church is to proclaim and establish the Kingdom of God begun by Jesus Christ among all peoples.

This does not include the Pope being president of Italy.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 767-769: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9.htm#767

With love in Christ.

No, because he has more influence as the Pope. And why mix religion and politics?

Why would he want that? He already runs the Catholic church, which has a far larger population than Italy.
