Charlemagne was the most heinous person to ever rule in
Europe. His consolidation of power led to Northern mainland Europe being able to defend against the great and awesome Norse vikings who were trying to spread their magnificent culture and people across all of Europe. Because of this much of his empire didn't stick to the traditional religion of it's people and instead abandoned their faith for a new religion coming out of the middle east. his progress does not sustain itself because he left his empire equally to his 3 sons which took his empire in 3 different directions .

Charles the Great was a Frankish king who was able to establish the first Catholic Kingdom in Europe since the Fall of Rome. His kingdom was situated between modern-day France and Germany. His palace at the city of Aachen was a center of medieval learning. I would have to say that his progress sustained itself fairly well, considering his established Kingdom became the French monarchy (though there was minor infighting among his descendants).
