If 1GB = 1024 of RAM then 4GB should = 4096 of RAM. Does that mean that some of the RAM I added is not working? (2 2GB disk).

32bit OS has about 750mb upper memory hole. It is literally invisible and useless. Only 64bit OS will be able to utilize the full 4Gb. 3Gb is practical limit for 32bit OS. Actually 1Gb is fine for XP and 2Gb for Vista.

That's all the RAM that's addressable in a 32 bit OS. So unless your using XP 64 or Vista 64, you'll only see 3318 MB.

It means your Mobo and CPU have reached the max amount of RAM it can handle, make sure of this by visiting http://crucial.com and scan your computer, it will tell you the max amount of RAM you can install.
