Okay... a model of the set for "Glass Menagerie".

You can make the fire-escape out of either balsa or bass wood, or better yet, "structural plastic". You can find both in any GOOD model hobby shop.

The plastic is styrene, and can be "welded" with plastic cement (model glue) and then painted with enamel or acrylic paints.

The building wall can be built from there 1/4" plywood or foam-core cardboard.

MOST theater-set models are built in 1/4" = 1 foot scale (a 6 foot person is 1.5 inches) or 1/2" - 1 foot scale (6ft - 3 inches). I had our old high-school theater built in 1" = 1' scale, but that was a permanent tool.

depending on how artistic you are, you could probably use anything from clay to cardboard or a combination of the two. if you don't have to make everything from scratch, you might find some cool figurine type things at A.C. Moore or Michaels in the doll house section.
