George was due to have an appraisal interview with his boss during which they would review his performance over the year.

The best way to do this and actually learn what these words mean is to look them up, then form a sentence that makes sense according to the definition.

Otherwise you won't learn it.

I'll get you started: a "criterion" is a standard used for measurement of something. It's the singular form of "criteria." So, for example, if you're applying for a job, the prospective employer might judge you according to a certain criterion.

Something "mediocre" is average. It's not high quality, just so-so. A mediocre actor would be one whose work isn't particularly impressive and doesn't stand out from the crowd.

Appraisal- The judges' appraisal of the dancing act made the crowd mad.

Base- The military base was taken over by enemy soldiers

Canid- not sure, are you sure you have it spelled right.

Criterion- The teachers harsh criterion of the students sloppy homework made him mad.

Dexterity- School is one place to develop dexterity.

Legitimate- The customers complaint about service was legitimate.

Mediocre- Some students don't want to be extraordinary, they just want to be mediocre.

Meritorious- The Noble Peace Prize winner deserved the meritorious applause after his acceptance speech.

Truism- We could tell she wasn't lying by her truism plea of innocence.

Validate- Before we where able to attend the trip to Spain, we needed to validate our passports.

Here you go, I still am not sure about "canid" but I hope it helps! :)

After the appraisal of his last invention the chemist decided to make a base solution to increase the dexterity of the previously mediocre canid. He was however not legitmate to test it on animals, and under these cryterion he decided to meritoriously and truistically test it on himself, his death has not however validated the experiment.
