I think NFL overtime should consist of the head coaches for each team engaging in a cage fight on the 50 yard line.

The NFL overtime procedure is not perfect, but it is much better than the college overtime, which is an afront to competition.
In college, return teams are eliminated from the game and defenses are put at a disadvantage for the sake of time.
The only thing more stupid than the college OT, is eliminating the kick PAT option at the 3rd OT. If it is so important that the OT not last too long, let the game end in a tie.
Or, run the clock up from 0:00 for the first team. If the second team cannot score the same number of points in less time, or more points in the same or less time, the first team wins.
If neither team scores, flip possession with the same rules until one team scores more quickly. That would not be perfect either, but is better than what the colleges use now.

no, both systems college and pro should have full quarter of overtime and whoever has the most most points at the end wins, if it's tied, then there is a tie, and that will be weighted accordingly at the end of the season if it comes into play. Neither the college or pro system has a good overtime, one is like a scrimmeage (college) that takes many of the elements of a real game out of the game being played, the other (Pro) just needs to play out the whole quarter, I'm not down with the first team that scores wins, that's one area where college has it right, each team has an opportunity.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. The NFL is making it way too easy, not to mention less exciting.
In the NFL, the winner in overtime is usually the person that wins the coin toss. I'd at least like the other team to have a chance to score.

The NFL overtime system is far BETTER than college. Football is about offense, defense, and special teams. The college OT is about offense only, it's very predictable, and boring. The sudden death format that the NFL uses is the best. And despite what many think, the team that wins the OT coin toss wins on average about 59% of the games. That is not a huge difference.

NO, and the team only wins on the first possession like 30% of the time. Hey if you don't want to lose that way then don't let it go into OT in the first place. Now I think Beano Cook has the right idea. Was listening to his idea the other week and he wants to see the college game's OT changed to have the kickoff and each time will get ONE possession. If the game is tied after each team has ONE possession then it is a tie.

Yes because in the current NFL overtime whoever wins the coin toss wins the game as once they get into field goal range they kick a field goal.
