For example, I would say that "In the Ghetto" and "Kentucky Rain" are vastly underrated, while "Hound Dog" is way too lame to have been a hit in the first place.

Thanks all!

I agree. "Kentucky Rain" and "In the Ghetto" are both tender and haunting. Kentucky Rain is my favorite of all that Elvis ever did. Around '54 or '55 he recorded the song "Aura Lee" with the original words by Stephen Foster. Later the lyrics were changed and "Love Me Tender" became a big hit for Presley. I liked the Stephen Foster version better.

Well, I am a dyed in the wool Elvis fan, but I don't really listen to his old music...I grew up with his music, as he hit when I was a freshman in HS...so I lived the Rock and Roll years...I suppose I like the original Elvis before RCA got a hold of him, he was rawer, more real...one of my favorites is Mystery Train and Blue Moon of Kentucky. When Hound Dog and Don't be Cruel hit, that was over the top and he was KING! My favorite Elvis wasn't even an Elvis song, but Terry Stafford who sounded just like Elvis, Suspicious Minds...Elvis did a remake and it worked again...My least favorite is "In the Ghetto" (too heavy for me) and "Teddy Bear" (too formula and contrived for me). The rest are golden, babe! Phil

"Kentucky Rain" is my favorite Elvis song. I enjoy the crescendo effect and the blast of emotion in each chorus.

I wasn't much of an Elvis fan, but "Hound dog" I think was over rated and White Christmas was underrated.

The only song of his I really liked was "Blue Moon". Maybe you didn't like Hound Dog, it was a hit at that time. Most doo wop songs don't make any sense.
Do you look for religious meanings in movies that are made to entertain? Same thing.

I would say Hunk of Burning Love was way overrated and all the rest of his songs were underrated. I even liked his Christmas songs.

I love Elvis but my favorite song is the one where he laughs through the song do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had hair. When I hear it I have to laugh.

I've always thought that "Marie's the Name (of his latest flame)" never got enough air play--"Jailhouse Rock" and "Hound Dog" got too much.
