x = [ - 6 ±√(36 + 60) ] / 6
x = [ - 6 ±√(96) ] / 6
x = [ - 6 ± 4√(6) ] / 6

if you've got the right software (Maple), just type:
solve(3*x^2+6*x-5=0,x);
then press enter and view the results immediately:
-1+(2/3)*sqrt(6), -1-(2/3)*sqrt(6)

you could use the quadratic equation, or use the method of completing the square (which is how the quadratic equation is derived, so I guess "complete the square" is the best answer for HOW to solve -- consult any elementary algebra book for more details, or google).

3x^2+6x-5 = 0
Use quadratic formula,
x = [-6 ± √(6^2+60)]/6 = -1 ± 2√6 / 3

I think it would be...

3xsquared + 6x- 0
9x + 6x - 5 = 0
15x - 5 = 0
+5 +5

15x = 5
-------------
15 15

x = 1/3

But I suck at math so I dunno. That's how we were taught.
