For example, where I live, we get commercials for CiCi's Pizza and Sonic, but there is not even one of those restaurants around here? Why do they do that? What kind of marketing scheme is this?

They buy network TV, which airs just about everywhere, because there are so many of their locations. If they were only more local, they would buy spot TV (meaning just certain cities). Clearly it's more cost-effective for them to buy the entire network than all the spot markets.

No idea, they do that here too - we see advertisements for Ruby Tuesdays but there is not a Ruby Tuesdays within 100 miles of us!

I guess maybe they just air it to everyone in the state, if there are restaurants in that state.

They know people travel and they also know that they might be building one in the area they are advertising in. So it gets their name and what they have to offer into potential future consumers.

Its because they want to get your attention. Then next time you go some where, you'll see one of those restaurants, you'll want to go there. Its called advertisement.

They put subliminal advertising in it so when you finely pass one you just have to stop and find out their cr@p is just as bad as everyone else's
