If you FLY to the Bahamas, you need a passport...no exceptions. If you go by ship...a cruise...you do not need a passport until after SUMMER 2008. The requirement for passports for SEA travel will begin then. See website below and read top half of the page for CURRENT info. Now, some cruise lines want all passengers to have passports even tho the law does not yet require it, so it is wise to call and ask them.

yes , US citizens need a passport to go to any other country , including Bahamas , Canada and Mexico

If you fly. You need a passport to get out of the country now. The backlog finally ended so it should be easy to get one now.

yes but it isn't really in effect as yet, but as for January 08 its a must to have to travel to Canada, Mexico and Tha Bahamas

Yes you do if you fly. If you go by ship, no passport required. (if you depart from a US port and return to US port )However this will change in the summer of 2008.
