Well, I have good news and bad news. Monthly periods aren't the best OR the worst thing about being a woman. The only alternatives (pregnancy, hysterectomy, or menopause) are likely not that great an option for a teenager either!

Don't know what you know or don't know about it, but you will survive it--all women do. Just have some pads on hand at home and a couple tucked into your purse or school locker just in case if you think you are reaching the age. Signs that it's around the corner are hair in new places (privates, under arms) as well as other body changes (figure, voice may deepen, hair on head may get curlier).

You should also get some Midol or at least ibuprofen (Advil) to take in case you have menstrual cramps. You may not feel great the first day or so, but it will pass, and it may not even be as bad as you have imagined.

You may be surprised how approachable your Mom is about this--you may be embarrassed, but she is likely anticipating this and your questions about it as well. If not, surely you have a female relative or a close friend you can confide in, or at least the school nurse--it's her job to help with health conditions, and I'm sure she is trained to help girls with questions about this, and it won't be the first (or last) time she's dealt with it.

Try googling "menstrual cycle" for more info online about it.

Regardless if you want one or not, you're going to get one. It comes with becoming a woman...it can seem like a big deal at first, which it kind of is, but once you get the hang of handling it, it's not a big deal...it's more of an inconvenience than anything! If you're at least 16, or have already started to have sex, then you could start taking birth control...and depending on which kind of birth control you take, you could skip periods, have only like 4 a year, or not have 'em at all. You should definitely find someone you can trust to talk to...it may seem embarrassing but it helps to have someone who can be there for you.

Believe it or not, seeing the answers you've gotton already, there is a way so you won't get it.Just wait for it to start and become normal, then go to the doctor's office after about 5 normal periods you could just about predict. You can get a shot there so about 5 or 10 of your next periods won't come.Personally,I think if you don't want a shot, get some tampons and use those, just remember to ALWAYS take them out every 4 to 8 hours and wear pads at night.

Ah don't worry. It isn't that bad. It just becomes part of normal life. Like brushing your teeth or falling to sleep at night. It isn't that bad. It will come about every 28 days or so. You might get cramps, but it isn't like your dieing. Just get some pads and be prepared and everything. Don't ever be embarresed to ask questions either.

Your going to get one no matter what. But its ok, all women go through it. At first I was scared, then I wanted it, now I hate it. You will get used to it. Just talk to your grandma, aunt, teacher, or school nurse. They will understand. Also, you can talk to us or your friends. Don't worry.

its going to happen, there is no avoiding it. Its natural. I wish I knew what you what bothers you about it so I could talk to you about that part of it.

I am not thrilled about them myself, but you do get used to it. Its normal to be worried and anxious about it , especially when you don't have anyone to talk about it with.

hate to tell you this, sweetie, but you can't just decide NOT to have your period!

maybe try talking to your aunt, a cousin or even a female teacher or something.

good luck.
