I think I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago,I was working out and my ankle twisted inward and I heard a popping noise and ive done this before also. And normally its went away by now but after 2 weeks my ankle still has some swelling, very little right in front of my ankle and slightly on my leg.My ankle is real sensitive to the touch and hurts real bad justto touch it.
I have tried to do my workout twice since I hurt my ankle thinking it was better,But both times It began to hurt so bad at the bottom of my foot I had to stop, yesterday I ran with no shoes cause it felt better with no shoes for some reason?? Also it after walking a good distance it feels like my foot is splitting into on the bottom in the middle of my foot,
I dont get it,and am now getting worried,it seems like its better but then when i try to workout it hurts so bad.
Does this sound like a sprain? should the symptoms last longer than 2 weeks?I am thinking about going to get x-rays but dont want to if its a just a sprain

I would ice your foot and go get some xrays sounds like you may have a fracture or some tissue damage.

I know you don't want to hear this...but my friend is such a sports addict as of about 2 years ago, and since she just randomly started cross country running and biking in the forest near her house, riding 3 days a week (horses) track practices 3 days a week, (sundays she goes for extra runs and bike rides) with no previous training before that except for occasional runs outside her once a week riding lessons and school track practices (she is such a fanatic...I don't see how she does it but...) she sprains her ankle(s) at least once a month. SPRAINS NEVER HEAL COMPLETELY. her mom is a nurse and always reminds her of that, she wears a tensor/ace bandage, and an ankle brace, on each ankle whether its sprained or not (heavier ones for when theyre actually sprained) because she was so reckless (and she's right here as I type this lol, but she's busy ranting about how her horseshow was cancelled because of rain lol) she ended up stress fracturing an already sprained ankle playing volleyball, (and she sprained it during baseball). the only thing she can do now is ride. No distance running or sprinting, no biking, just riding, because it's the only thing that doesn't hurt it. She will not be completely healed until the end of September, and has to spend her money that usually goes to horse stuff, on physio. This is holding her back from the 800 m provincials. the end result sucks...it will heal much less if you play...and although she still excercised, still rode, still went to track meets and horseshows, she regrets it, because the permanent pain and discomfort from braces and tensors holds her back. (she also has Osgood-Shlatters Disease and has to wear 2 kneee braces on each knee while running and biking) go ahead and play, just be really careful about whether or not you have previously sprained it. note from friend: "I would like to say that Jamie's being dramatic...which maybe the wording makes it seem like that, but yes I am very injury prone... but no pain as long as I'm wearing the braces...but she's right, sprains never heal. I roll over on my ankle, it hurts for hours or days, if I trip, same thing. BE CAREFUL..."

It could be a severe strain, then again, it could be either pulled tendons/ligaments or even a fracture. If it still hurts that badly after this much time, I'd get the Xrays done as soon as possible. Last time my daughter "sprained" her ankle, she had similar problems, I finally forced the issue and had her checked by an orthopedic specialst. We found that she had severely injured the tendons in her ankle, she has now been in a full wallking boot for 4 weeks. After the doctor feels the damage is healed enough, she will have to go thru physical rehab to get it working right without causing more injury. I hope yours is only "sprained", but better to check and be safe, than have a lifetime of pain and problems with it.
Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

sometimes it is very difficult to distinguish between a severe sprain and a fracture without a xray. you should at this point rest it, ice it, elevate it; and go see someone, preferrably an orthopedist. a fracture needs to be ruled out with a xray; if it is a fracture, you can make things worse by walking on it as it may displace/move the fragment to the point where surgery maybe necessary. if it is a sprain, it needs to be braced or even immobilized with a walking cast depending on severity. you may also have a ligament or tendon injury that creates instability of your ankle.
bottom line, if things don't improve in a otherwise young and healthy person after a while, go see someone.
good luck

Yes symptoms will last longer than two weeks if its a significant sprain, which it does indeed sound like. You shouldnt be running on it at all. You need to completely rest it, no running, walking yes but not long distances. Keep it elevated when you can and take a suitable anti inflammatory.

You have given proposals in your questions such as Should I think, If....., it seems......well there are no IFs or shoulds..... in a medical condition. You are asking the wrong forum for medical help, when the easiest would be to go to a clinic accross the road and get your problem solved, yahoo Q/A will not know what to do with your condition, short of (may be even not that), be sympathetic to you..

My son has had many sprained ankles. Sprains can be more painful and take longer to heal than breaks. You have to make sure it is completely healed before you try to exercise.

just so you aren't worried...
I had a sprained ankle for well over two months (still in the acute pain phase) because I went back to working out too quickly. Get it checked out and rest. Trust me..its one year later and I have torn the ligament...constant pain for one year. Its not worth it. Btw...I'm 14. So....don't do permanent damage. I think its just a sprain, but get it checked out just to make sure.
Good luck and God Bless!!!
