I use one of the fitted covers made for motorcycles. You can get them from just about any auto parts store, or wal-mart. They're usually pretty cheap, I think i gave 20$ for mine. If for no other reason, they're good for keeping dust off, and any kind of condensation the bike might draw. Also, you might think of blocking the bike up by the frame. If you're planning on leaving the bike setting for a while ( I know Michigan winters can be a bit long), tire dry rot/ warpage/flatspotting might be a concern. I've never had that problem myself, but I pull mine out and start it a couple times a month, and ride it anytime the roads are dry/snow free enough to permit it.

You can get a cheap dust cover off of ebay. Make sure you put a plastic bag over the exhaust and put a rubber band around the pipe to keep the bag tight so moisture stays out of the engine. Also, contrary to popular belief, you want to have a FULL tank of gas when you store the bike. "But what about the sediments in the fuel" one might say. First, you should be using 93 octane in the tank, and I would also add stabil. It's a formula you can get from Home Depot thats meant to stablize gas for months of sitting. Do that, and you should be good to go.

if it's indoors it shouldn't matter too much, I would just use an old blanket, the metal holes in the tarp could hurt your bike.
