I've always wanted to wrestle with a Grizzly bear so I'd take the opportunity to do that. If the friend wants to run and miss a good show, that's up to them.

Stand up, swinging my arms, making as much noise as possible. They will usually run off then. Now if it was a Grizzly bear, I would grab my 357 magnum, and as it was getting closer, I would hold the gun up to my temple then pull the trigger.

shoot it i wouldnt go into a forest that had black bears in it without a gun

Now if it started attacking me, I would fight like mad.

i think you are supposed to avoid eye contact and very quietly back away. and if attacked, roll up into a ball and wait and wait before attempting to exit. that is what i would try to do.
