Dear Nana Ama,
Nope.
Combustion only COMBINES atoms [An oxidizer and a flue] at a CHEMICAL level. The atoms remain intact.
Atoms CAN be split into smaller atoms of a totally different material. [IE Helium can be split into Hydrogen.] it's called nuclear fission.
The only way I am aware of to COMPLETELY destroy an atom, leaving behind ONLY energy, is by matter, antimatter fusion.
Hugs,
PennyAnn

No, you can change it from on type of chemical through a reaction (like 2(H-O-H) to 2(H-H) +O-O) and release energy but matter is not destroyed.

No. The Law of Conservation of Matter states that matter cannot be created nor destroyed. It can only change form.

Matter is NEVER destroyed, nor is it created. Matter can be altered in its form, or, IF you are using nuclear reactions, converted to energy.
