In Texas it is legal for a 17 year old to leave home. However they can be brought back through court. Could he switch schools on his own after leaving home if he is leaving without parent permission?

I looked it up a while back and the law books stated that to bring their child home they'd have to go through the order of inquisition. It said all the cops can do until then is make him call home, tell them where he is, and that he is safe.

Just for the record, the school he is switching to is in a different state. He'll be living about a a mile from the school.

No, you cannot leave home, at 17, without parental permission. Even in Texas. Even if you can be prosecuted as an adult. You must have parental permission to change schools, because your parents are responsible for you.

It is not legal for a 17 year old to leave home. The fact that they can be brought back through court means it is not legal. If it was legal then the courts couldn't stop it.

And no, he couldn't switch schools either.

Most schools have "boundary limits" that you must live within to go to that areas school. Changing schools without parental/legal guardians permission would be illegal.
