Use tanning beds a couple times during the winter months as a feel good treatment for myself. Tanning also helps to clear any ache (via kids dermatologist) from dry skin caused by the cooler weather. Preference as to what you choose to wear or not is personal. My personal preference is for natural, because it creates a sensual "feel good" for the spirit; my shower is the only other time that I have my own time and peace of mind. Additionally, I prefer to sanitize my tanning bed before and after.
It doesn't dry my skin, with use of salon tanning bed lotion.

Yes, You can tan in the winter, but the reason why people generally don't is because people wear more clothes during the winter. So yes, you can tan in the winter, you just have to walk around in shorts and tank tops. All in all I don't think that's very practical. =P You could always use a lotion with a slight self-tanner in there. But as for tanning outside, it may be a very chilly experience.

The kind of tan I have doesn't require a tanning booth or bed. Fish-belly white is pretty much my natural color.
I don't have a dry skin problem. But I do have a problem with dry air and static electricity. I get shocked several times a day.

I let my tan fade in winter. I just use a little bronzer and highlighter on my face to have a nice glow. I also let my hair go to my natural color (almost black) and that looks good with pale, creamy skin.
If I ever decided to tan in the winter I would use gradual self tanning lotion. Tanning beds are terrible for your skin and have just as high of a skin cancer rate as laying out in the sun. Plus you will wrinkle pre-maturely from tanning beds. If you've got to tan, go get a spray on.

au natural, and in the winter i go about 1/4 of the time that i do in the spring/summer. I hate the fake tan look especially in the winter.
going tanning may not be a good thing, but I am addicted, and it keeps my face clear.
they don't dry out my skin, but i'm also more regimented about putting lotion on while I'm tanning (and after)

No way!!!
Tanning booths bbaaaaadd!
During the winter months, everyone gets paler - there's health and evolutionary reasons for that. Let mother nature do her thing.
If you do go, I really don't recommend being naked inside a booth hundreds of other people use. Again, that should raise a health-issue red flag, no matter how sanitary the place claims to be.

I hit the beds every once and a while. I am kinda broke right now though so haven't been doing much. I use a lotion formulated for the tanning beds to keep my skin from drying out.

Well living in NY I use tanning beds. I don't want to scare anyone looking like a ghost in the winter. It's terrible for me I know.
They don't dry my skin out but I am Italian and I have thick skin. :-)

Tanning beds are icky. They can give you bad skin and wrinkles (and those places always smell funny). There are plenty of other solutions if you have to stay tan during the winter, including 'sun-less' tanning lotions that won't give you tan lines -- or skin cancer.
