America is a country founded on religious freedom. I strongly support the freedom of religion enjoyed here, but I admit, I would not vote for a muslim. Would you?

I must admit that I would be hesitant. This is the only religion that I know of where so many of it's adherents have committed so many brutal and inhumane acts throughout the history of the religion. Our legal system is largely derived from Jewish and Christian values. If you look at the legal systems of countries that are based on Muslim values, it's pretty scary. (Example: punishing the VICTIM of a rape by stoning/lashes because she was alone in the company of a man she was not related too).

If i were american would i be more worried about a muslim president than a right wing christian president? No! Religion should play no part. But the right wing is staking its claim on islam being the new common enemy. This is totally out of order. How many US muslims have ever done anything? Not many and not any more than any one else. It is pathetic. Treating US citizens like they are criminals because of their religion in a country that is supposed to have freedom of religion! It makes me sick. No wonder the founding fathers had the president chosen by the senate and not the people!!!

That's a very hypothetical question. Muslims are almost unknown in US national politics. There is only one Muslim in Congress, and there was a big brouhaha over whether he would take the ceremonial oath of office by putting his hand on a Koran. I don't think there's much chance that this will happen soon.

If you're referring to Barack Obama, his grandfather, who he never knew was a Muslim, his father and mother were atheists, and Barack and his wife are Christians.

Not all Muslim people are alike, so I'm not sure. I would have to know more about the candidate. If I felt he or she was sincere and would be a competent president who would do what is best for the country, then yes I would vote for him or her. I f I disagreed with his or her policies and felt that he or she would not be a good president or would be bad for our country, then no I would not vote fro him or her.

I agree with your views. As hateful as it sounds, I too, would not vote for a Muslim for president. The reason is that when a Muslim is in charge of a country, that country is put in a category that makes it all the more EASY for terrorists to target non-Muslims. It is part of their religious/cultural principles, so I do not mean that it would be easier because he would personally allow or even want want this to happen. I learned this from a former Muslim.

So, freedom of religion as long as it doesn't effect you? A person's religious choice should not be a determining factor when we choose a president. I think there are many more important issues than how a person chooses to practice his or her religion. I would suggest you pay more attention to the issues in our nation and base your choice on who is best qualified to resolve some of those issues. I surely hope that America does not start basing who gets to be president on their personal religious choice. That goes against everything our country stands for. In answer to your question - Yes I would vote for a person that was Muslim if I thought they would do the best job for our country. As a matter of fact a person's religious choice will have no affect on my vote at all.

I would if I thought that person was the best candidate.

Why is it no surprise to see you admit that you're a religious bigot?

So called "christian" george w bush ivaded iraq and killed people then tried to claim "god" told him to do it, so does that mean that in the future you won't vote for another Christian?

How could you ask a question like this? Seriously, what is wrong with you? Politics and religion have nothing to do with each other in this country - have we EVER had a president that has tried to radically push their religious beliefs on the public ever?? You sound very ignorant and people like YOU are what's wrong with our country, not muslims.

I wouldn't refuse to vote for a president if they were Muslim and I felt they were qualified for the job. Look at the bright side: it can give us some leverage in deals with Muslims, and shows the world that America doesn't hate them and isn't out to get them.

I too am someone who values religious freedom and without the separation of church and state, we risk losing that freedom. For that reason I would vote for who I felt would be best for the country regardless of their religion or lack thereof.
