I didn't realize I had wrote my mom a check with a closed checking account. I should had shreaded them right away, but I didn't. I wrote the check thinking it was my good checking account. My mom got the returned check and said they took the money out of her account and charged her a fee. Since it was my fault, I agreed to pay her the 55 dollars that I owe her. Could I be arrested by my bank. I know its a crime to knowledgly write bad checks, but I did not do it intentionally.

I just shreaded all my checks from that checking account, so it doesn't happen again.

No your bank can't arrest you for this. The person you wrote the check to is the only one that can file a complaint of a bad check. And since that was your mom and she understands what happened, you are fine. Glad to hear you shredded the rest of the checks though. lol

It would be denied unless you have a rollover plan with another account (like a savings account) at that bank. Best to alert all your auto-withdrawal merchants of the changeover as soon as you open the new account. Also overlapping the two accounts for a month is a good idea just in case. Do this and leave the initial account dormant. This way your next statement on the initial account will show whether or not you have forgotten something. It will show activity or no activity. Good Luck to you.

Usually a one-time bounce is just an error and the fees are all that happens. Banks don't arrest people, police do. You're probably okay, if Mom isn't making a stink.

Most likely nothing will happen with your bank. Mistakes happen. All that happened to the check was that it was presented to your bank, they saw the account was closed and sent it back to whomever presented it. Unless it happens so much that it is a problem, they usually don't worry about it.

Nothing will happen to you. A mistake is not a crime. Your mother would be the only one who could press charges since you have paid her, she can't even do that if she wanted to. You are fine.

Hi RM,
lol, don't you worry about jail. Nothing more will happen to you than the fine you've already paid and the apology to your mom. Just be careful in the future as this could affect your credibility.
Take care.

Your mom will not be able to cash this check. and if the bank happens to give her the amount of the check she will have to pay her bank back.

Your bank won't arrest you, but the police will. Unless your mom doesn't press charges.

Nothing will happen to you. If you did this a few times I'm sure something might happen but a one time happening they aren't going to do anything.

When fines are already paid, the arrest will likely not be made.
