You are talking about a form of conscription. I do not think Americans will go for it, but it would help the US feel as one and not so divided within it's own borders.

No, I have a genetic condition that prevents me from being in the military, or I would probably be in Iraq right now. It would not be fair to deny people that want to serve their country, but can't.

I think the best thing we can do is restrict voting based on a test. Something that would be equivalent to a high school civics test with some math and economics mixed in. If you pass, you can vote. Seriously, people that think there are 54 states or 5 branches of government should not be allowed to vote. If you don't even know how the government works, you should not have a say in decision that will affect other peoples' lives.

A lot of politicos would lose there citizenship. But no, seriously, because then you would have to wait until 18 to be a citizen? What about people born in the good ole US of A how would we get jobs and benefits without first serving in the military? They might as well bring back the draft.

You are talking about forced military service. Those who do not do it are not considered citizens and live some sort of sub life. Yeah, that is not exactly American thinking. That sort of infringes upon the idea of people having rights and being free and such.

So, too bad, so sad. Your idea will never happen.

I think it could be a good path to citizenship. Consider if we gave illegals citizenship for service. It's been done before. We already know how hard working they are, and how they make such capable infiltrators.

No. Silly notion, completely against what this nation is about.

(PS--Heinlein said Federal service, not military service...and made it clear over the years after ST was published that he meant it that way, too.)
