I mean, it's not like anybody has a choice.
Fair enough, digital is the future but it seems like people are being forced to switch to digital television at their own expense.
I'm already digital with my main television, the arial upgrade cost over £100. but i now have to pay out for the other tvs around the house as these will soon be unusable.
Am i the only person that feel that people should have had some form of financial support from the government and television companies? or even compansation for the televisions we are all going to have to throw away in the next few years?
Maybe we can cash the old tvs in as a good deposit on a new digital one? what do we all think?

FAO searching_please..i do have digital, as i said, but those on sky that still have an analogue box will have to pay for a digital upgrade or risk losing some channels.....
FAO pierced_silver, have you actually scanned through the so called extra channels that you get with digital? most are radio stations or crappy shows that couldn't even get onto 'fox'.....
bbc3/4/news...itv 2/3 are all repeats of what you watched on itv 1 yesterday....the list is endless so don't be telling me to get my head out of hte clouds......
The next sketch is that the general public will be forced to pay to have their old televisions removed.....enviromental issues.

I agree. A trade in and let them worry about the mass load of hazardous waste they are creating.

Depending where you live there's years before digital switchover and so the chances of you not changing your TV before then make some of the problems go away. How many people have got rid of perfectly good CRT TVs and bought LCD TVs? Besides, £20 for a set top box isn't a great deal of cash for most people and the TV companies will help some of the most vulnurable, but don't tell me you are hard up if you have 5 TVs

What is a rip off is the fact that equipment is still being sold that is not compatible with the full switch over. I am a little concerned for the more vulnerable members of the community who could be open to con merchants and people will inevitably try to make money out of it.
The solution would be for the TV company's to provide digi boxes to these groups free of charge. They don't cost much to make and would be a gesture of good will on there part.

As far as i am concerned the service has not changed or improved in any way,my picture was just as good with analogue,it benefits me not a jot to be on digital. Its like the old HI-FI systems ,you had to have big ears working on overtime to tell the difference between one system and another,i know i never could. If you had a good make of tele the picture would be excellent on both systems. Its only the broadcasters and manufacturers that benefit. You can only watch one channel at once.

Oh more times than I care to mention sweetie. I know the exact feeling and I have had to remind myself that I am an adult .. and that I could go to JAIL for ripping a kids face off! lol (Ok, well that exact thought has never quite come to mind but giving them a da*mn good shake sure has!) ;-) Matter of fact just this week I had to contain myself because my son won 2nd place at the science fair and all these kids started giving him cr*ap because I was in charge of it. Well ... I certainly didn't do the judging so I had nothing to do with that. I just set it all up. I wanted to march over to his classroom and start "rippin"! lol Luckily his teacher calmed me down and I was fine. ;-) My son is just such a truly sweet boy as is your daughter ... and it kills him when someone gets mad at him or wants to tear him down for no reason. Your daughter is going to be just fine ... although she may get hurt from time to time I hope she always maintains her sweet heart and willingness to be a friend. It is, I have found, a much more rewarding way to live in the end ... Peace and calm to you! =) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* P.S. Apple juice although I don't care much for either! =D

this may seem extremely far fetched, but if the majority of people refused to fund the change, then the government and TV companies would have no choice but to subsidise the switch. simply because they could not afford us not to watch, all it would mean is the loss of watching TV for a while. but seeming as now a TV tends to be the focal point of a household, that's doubt-full. this TV switch is a typical example of the government, yet again, forcing us to live how they want us to. where has our "free" country gone? snatched from under our feet. i just wish more people would see it. then maybe as a people, we could force a change.

Went digital years ago as get a better picture, so doesn't really effect me. It's not like they gave us five minutes to get the digital thing sorted in our homes. Digi boxes are dead cheap in Tesco.

In the U.S. the gov't will help out with this conversion. I believe it will be based upon income weather you qualify or not.
I'm ready for it. Not in the sense that I have purchased a converter, but in the sense of "Out with the old, in with the new"!!
