My 2000 grand am makes a loud, even, high pitched squeal upon starting. Can only hear it from outside of the car, not when driving. It is a separate sound from the evenly running motor. Serpentine belt was replaced about 6 months ago. Just started this yesterday. Is there anything i should be looking for under there to narrow down the problem before i take her to the car dr?

It's probably a serpentine belt guide bearing, tensioner bearing, or the bearing in your water pump is starting to show it's age. Take a tube, like the empty cardboard one from a roll of paper towels, and use it like a stethoscope to locate the noise when you are starting up. Try to duplicate the noise often and listen with the tube to pinpoint the noise. Good Luck!!!
